Assemble The Unit

Starting The Unit

Remove cap from end of
lower boom. Push cutting
attachment add-on into
coupler. Turn coupler knob
clockwise to tighten.

Assemble The Unit

Mix thoroughly in separate
fuel can:
– 3.2 fl. oz. of 2-cycle

engine oil

– 1 gallon of unleaded

gasoline

NOTE: Do not mix directly in

fuel tank.

Place unit on a level surface.
Fill fuel tank.

Press primer bulb 10 times,
or until fuel is visible

Crouch in starting position.

SQUEEZE and HOLD
throttle for ALL further
steps.

Pull rope 5 times.

Move choke lever to
Position 2 and squeeze
throttle.

Pull rope 3-5 times to start
engine. Run unit for 30-60
seconds to warm up.

Continue to squeeze
throttle.Move choke lever
to Position 3.

Remove all contents from
the carton.

additional 60 seconds to
complete warm-up. Unit
may be used during this

handle a minimum 6 inches
away from shaft grip. Insert
bolt and tighten.

Reloading The Line*

Quick Instructions to
Replace Trimmer Line

For complete instructions,
refer to Line Installation
section of this manual.

Rotate the bump knob
clockwise until all line is
inside the cutting head.

Using a flat-head screwdriver,
insert the tip into the line dimple,
just under the exposed portion of
the line, and pull all the line out.

Align the arrows on the
bump knob with the
spool cover eyelets.

Using 16 ft. of 0.095 in. line; push both
ends through the holes in the bump knob
until they protrude through the eyelets.

Hold the spool cover, turn the bump
knob clockwise to wind the line around
the spool until about 5 in. is protruding
from each side of the cutting head.

Start the unit and bump the cutting
head on the ground until the
desired cutting length is achieved.

Pull the line until approximately
8 ft. is visible on each side.

mount bracket. Securely
screw the 4shield screws
through the holes on the
mount bracket and into the
shield. Make sure the screws
are tightened equally.

The electric start add on is nice but at the asking price not worth it.until you realize you can't use your trimmer without it. Also it leaks oil constantly out the reserve. You better store it somewhere where the oil won't cause a problem.

Rated 2 out of 5 by KennyG from Not as good as it should beThe 4 stroke engine attracted me to this product. The engine us heavier than I expected and us very difficult to start with the pull. I purchased the drill attachment starter and it works but the amount of time seems too long. I would never get it started with the pull. The line feed bump head us average or worse than most. The line constantly binds against itself on the spool and won't feed when bumped. The alternate head with heavier blades is better but if they break it will he expensive. Thus seems like they tried to make a good product but did not do enough to make it a high quality product. If I started again I would stick with the 2 stroke model.

Had to buy an electric starter to get it started after running for several minutes. Works great until the string breaks off inside the head. You have to take the head off and rewind the sting that is left when it breaks. So carry a screwdriver while using it. String feeds itself sometimes, so I end up using about 5 feet of string every time I trim the yard, normal home with average size yard on 1/4 acre. really regretting buying this. My old Weed-Eater out performs this 10 times over. Been using string trimmers for over 40 years.

The string guides were not recovered and I was not able to use that feature any longer. I had to buy a more heavy duty cutter head and use the trimmer. Lowes no longer carries troy bilt products; therefore, I am not able to buy replacement parts. I cannot find a place other than online that carries troy bilt. Other than the string trimmer head this is a great piece of equipment, easy start and runs great

Rated 3 out of 5 by Sailor from Worked fine for 2 years then stopped.I really like the TB2044, goes through some pretty tough weed and grass around the farm. However, when I went to use it this spring/summer, it ran very rough and would stop completely after 10 to 15 seconds. I took it to a repair facility, and they said it needed a new carb. Waited for 2 weeks and was informed that it was sometimes hard to get the parts needed for repair. I only had about 10 to 15 hours on the engine. The repair was going to cost as much as a new machine. Also was informed by 2 repair facilities that because it was a 'fuel' problem it wouldn't be covered by warranty. I am going to try and repair it myself. Still like the way it starts/works, etc. but it's a boat anchor at the moment.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Mark from Real Junk! Do not buyMy wife purchased a TB2044xp believing she was buying me a quality piece of yard equipment. Less than two years later it doesn't start and is extremely unreliable. I've purchase much cheaper string trimmers which were far more reliable. I would strongly recommend not buying this junk. The first year it was pretty good but on the second year it started acting up and now doesn't start at all. The sad part is this is used for home use which means it has a pretty easy life but clearly this was poor ly designed. Will not buy another Troy Bilt lawn care equipment.
